WINE ADVOCATE REVIEW: 92+ POINTS The 2008 Chardonnay
Clare is the most restrained and closed offering in this group.
Also made from an old Wente clone in the well-known Hyde Vineyard
in Carneros, it exhibits a stony, Corton-Charlemagne-like
personality filled with notions of white currants, quince, crushed
rocks and lemon oil. The wine possesses zesty acidity, a big,
full-bodied mouthfeel and terrific purity, texture and length. Give
it another 6-12 months of bottle age and enjoy it over the
following decade. I would have to rank DuMol as one of my favorite
half dozen producers of California Chardonnay as well as one of the
top twenty in terms of Pinot Noir. WA # , #193 (Feb 2011) Drink
2012 - 2022 Robert Parker CONNOISSEUR'S GUIDE REVIEW: 92
POINTS Somewhat deeper and more outgoing than its DuMOL mates,
this bottling from the acclaimed Hyde Vineyard is rife with juicy,
ripe-apple fruit and framed with no small degree of creamy oak.
Like its mates, it is still very young and not fully formed, but
its combination of fruity depth and fine balance is the mark of a
wine that is sure to grow, and, while it wants for a least another
year in the bottle, we would not be surprised if it improves for
several more. Reviewed: December 2010
